Warriors, Mavericks advance to state golf, tennis tournaments

Edmonds-Woodway’s Rachael Puetz finished in a tie for 40th at the 3A girls state golf tournament Wednesday, May 22, at Hawks Prairie Golf Course (Woodlands) in Lacey.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Jordan Easter tied for 48th and Meadowdale’s Nicole Brunette placed 64th. Mavericks Eliza Moloney, Hannah Petterson, Moriah Frisby and Sarah Reitz did not make the cut for the second round.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Josh Nelson and Silas Puetz both advanced to the 3A boys state golf tournament but did not make the cut for the second round of play.

Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale players all experienced success at the 3A sate tennis championships.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Will Molinaro went 1-2 at the boys single tennis tournament. Molinaro defeated Fort Vancouver’s Manny Fernandez 6-1, 6-0 in a first-round match before losing his next two matches.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Drew Boland and Alec Matulka went 1-2 at the boys doubles tennis tournament Friday May 24.

The Warrior duo rebounded from a first-round match to beat Gig Harbor’s Hunter Austin/Kyle Johnson 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Natalie Paulson went 1-2 in the girls singles tennis tournament. After losing a first-round match, Paulson defeated Kamiakin’s Molly Kirkham 7-5, 6-2.

Meadowdale’s Isabel Reonal and Kelsey Cummins won one of three matches in the girls doubles tournament.

After dropping their first round match, Reonal and Cummins defeated Mount Spokane’s Sammie Maher/Kennedi Rehn 6-2, 6-3.
