Volunteer positions available for Summer Games | Special Olympics

Annual Special Olympics event to feature softball, golf and Bocce Ball

The Special Olympics Washington 2017 Summer Games are coming to Snohomish County and volunteers are needed throughout the three-day event.

Volunteers can help out at the golf, softball and Bocce Ball events, as well at the opening ceremony and the victory dinner and dance.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at the Civic Auditorium in Everett. Staging starts at 6 p.m. The victory dinner and dance is set from 3-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Everett High School auxiliary gym.

The softball tournament will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Kasch Park and Boeing Fields in Everett. Thirty-five teams will be playing. Volunteer positions include scorekeepers, individual skills, sports information desk, lunch distribution, results inputting, awards, athlete and family lounge and performance station.

Golf is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Battle Creek Golf Course in Tulalip (Marysville). The event will feature 120 competitors. Volunteer positions available include caddie/scorekeeper, individual skills, awards and results inputting.

The Bocce Ball competition is scheduled for 9 a.m-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19, at Kasch Park in Everett. The event will feature 140 athletes. Bocce Ball is an Italian game in which players roll balls across an area of ground and attempt to get each ball to stop as near as possible to a smaller ball. General volunteer and results inputting positions are available.

General volunteer positions are available for the Healthy Athletes event from 4-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, and from 9 a.m.-noon Sunday, Aug. 20, in the Everett High School auxiliary gym. The health event features Fit Feet (podiatric screenings), FUNFitness (physical therapy screenings), Health Promotion (health screenings and educational displays) and Special Smiles (dental screenings and oral health care information).

Takedown volunteer positions are available from 3-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Battle Creek Golf Course and from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, at Kasch Park and Boeing Fields.

Adult volunteer and youth volunteers, ages 11-17, are encouraged to apply. Medical professionals are also needed for all events.
