Unocal environmental cleanup extends hours on Pine Street

Sep 18, 2017

It’s now noisier for a longer period of time.

Chevron Environmental Management Company has increased the hours of its fieldwork at the former Unocal Edmonds Bulk Fuel Terminal site next to the Edmonds Marsh.

Workers will now be on site from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays “in order to meet our schedule commitments.”

Hours had been 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays only.

The construction work for environmental cleanup is the first of two cleanup projects in detentions basins in the former facility's lower yard area. Crews will excavate contaminated soil for removal by covered dump trucks.

The work generates typical construction noise, including backup horns.

By mid-fall, crews are expected to have replaced the contaminated soil with clean soil, and will begin installing wells for a groundwater treatment system that will operate for an estimated six years.
