Tibetan monks from the Dreprung Loseling Monastery in Atlanta began constructing a traditional mandala sand painting in the Edmonds Center for the Arts lobby Tuesday, May 8, as part of a weeklong residency in the city.

There will be working on their creation 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

It's worth a look.

It includes a performance of “Sacred Music, Sacred Dance” at ECA 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 11, a photo exhibit and a matinee performance for students on Thursday, May 10.

The public is invited to a closing ceremony 1 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in the ECA lobby.

There will then be a procession to a home in Edmonds, where the remaining sand from the project will be released into a stream of water that leads to Puget Sound.
