The Homestretch

Obnoxious John

According to the sources I use for this blog the homestretch is defined as -the part of a race course between the last turn and the winning post – but this blog is not about horse racing. It's about baseball.

The Mariners closed August on a good note, beating the Nationals to salvage one of three played this weekend.

There is no shame in losing to the Nationals (nee Expo's) these days. They are a fine team with good pitching, defense and several of them can hit the ball a long way. The lack of power on the Mariners was exposed simply by watching the Nat's club the ball around the yard in the three games they played here. It was something we aren't used to, multiple homers (10 to be exact) in three games. I'm glad to see them go.

Back to the homestretch- the M's have 27 games remaining. The season ends September 28th so they have 27 games in 28 days, the only off day coming September 11. To make matters worse they finish the season with 17 games in a row and 11 of those are on the road.

Of those 27 games remaining, 13 are against the A's and the Angels so it is possible, there is a chance, if the M's can hit the ball they could be playing in October for the first time since 2001.

And I like the thought of that.

Now get out there and take one for the team!
