Local photographers once again showed how talented they are during the 11th annual Photomarathon.

To participate in the contest, photographers could use a digital camera or smartphone. Those who entered were given certain topics to interpret within a time limit.

Grace Hiatt, 16, took the $500 top prize for her photo of the theme “The Subject Is Red.”

“The photographer was thinking outside the box here,” said judge Janet Jensen of Jensen Graphics.

“We have a redhead, holding a book with a red title. And, the young girl read the book.”

The annual contest is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Edmonds.

“Once again, the diverse makeup of all the winners shows that it is a challenging competition that can be won by professional or amateur photographers,” said club member Pat Thorpe. “Creative thinking plays a role right along with photographic skill.”
