T-birds torch Meadowdale | Football

Shorewood scored 24 points in the second and third quarters to pull away from Meadowdale and prevail 38-7 in the Wesco 3A football opener for both teams Friday, Sept. 7, at Shoreline Stadium

Following a pair of Thunderbird touchdowns, the Mavericks cut the deficit to 14-7 on a 5-yard touchdown run by running back Nate Hebert in the second quarter.

Shorewood running back Robert Banks rushed for 171 yards on 12 carries and scored three touchdowns, including an 85-yard run. Quarterback David Snell completed 7 of 9 passes for 207 yards and one TD.

The Thunderbirds gained 484 yards (207 passing, 277 rushing), while the Mavericks (0-1 in the league, 0-2 overall) produced 254 yards (77 passing, 177 rushing). Meadowdale was picked off twice. The Mavericks converted on only 3 of 10 third down attempts and were flagged nine times for 81 yards.

Meadowdale takes on crosstown rival Lynnwood at 8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at Edmonds Stadium. The Royals (0-1, 0-2) also are looking for their first victory after losses to Nathan Hale and Everett.
