Swing on by the Senior Center | Letter

Editor, The Beacon:

I am the conductor of the Edmonds Senior Swingers Jazz Orchestra. The Senior Swingers is a group of 25 dedicated members that love to play music.

As our title might suggest, we are not a jazz band or an orchestra but somewhere in the middle. Concert band arrangements seem to work best for us.

The Swingers meet every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave., on the second floor.

The group is committed to providing the audience with an enjoyable concert experience, and we work diligently on our musical pieces.

Not only do we play two concerts per year at the Edmonds Senior Center, we also perform at local retirement living communities.

As enjoyable as it is preparing the music the best that we can, we also have a lot of fun telling stories and jokes, and rubbing elbows when time allows, as the camaraderie is great among us all.

I feel very fortunate to have talented players in our group. If you are interested in listening to us or playing music, we are always looking for new instrumentalists that can read music fairly well. Come check the Edmonds Senior Swingers out. And if you are not a member of the Edmonds Senior Center, come down and check out all we have to offer.

Single memberships are $25 and $45 for a couple. It is good for an entire calendar year and there aren’t any age requirements to be a member.

We welcome everyone!

Tim Leese,

Edmonds Senior Center instructor
