Like a newly-built Boeing airplane just off the production line, Studio Prominence lifted off at its 2017 grand opening, jetting toward the future. Less than a year old, the boutique salon in downtown Edmonds is soaring.

Owner Adriana Blanchard, an Edmonds native, started with a vision of providing a high-end, spa-like experience that includes multiple services without the sticker shock.

Studio Prominence’s line-up includes full hair cutting services, design, shaping and color, brow tinting, smoothing and other chemical treatments.

They welcome ethnic clients, with technicians skilled in working on different kinds of hair.

Men are welcome as well. “We’re gender neutral,” Blanchard said. “We definitely want to appeal to men.

“We have quite a male client base already. They like the true barbershop style we offer.”

But you don’t just get a haircut at Studio Prominence; a visit includes a hot towel on your face and other pampering to enrich your visit. All clients are treated to beverages, from coffee, tea, sparkling water or soda to beer and wine.

“We really want to give that luxury experience without the extreme pricing,” Blanchard said. “We want to create long-term clients.”

In fact, entire families are welcome. From kids getting their first haircuts to millennials looking for the latest fashion colors to boomers who like current and stylish looks, the Studio Prominence team has the skills to meet each individual’s interests.

Blanchard, who attended Kings Schools and graduated from Edmonds-Woodway High School before attending college in California, has been methodically focused for years on obtaining the education and skills that one day would enable her to open her own business.

Now, with last year’s successful opening of Studio Prominence, she’s hard at work on expansion. They’ll open a spa this year with an esthetician who will provide waxing, lash extensions and facials, as well as a massage therapist to work out those knots and aches and bring you to a state of blissful relaxation.

Even while they’re preparing to offer more services, the Studio Prominence team keeps up-to-date on current trends to ensure clients can receive the latest in styles and techniques.

Blanchard just returned from a session in Florida hosted by Matrix, the popular hair products company that is one of the lines featured at Studio Prominence.

“We had an opportunity to learn about all the newest trends from some of the leading fashion icons, like Tabatha Coffey, a world famous hair stylist known for her TV show ‘Tabatha Takes Over,’ and Fergie,” the singer/actress whose hairstyles and colors designed by Matrix are leading trendsetters today.

“Fashion colors are popular with young people age 10 and up,” Blanchard said about the growing trend for bright streaks and blends in their hair. “It’s so much more accepted than when it used to be just punk or rebel styles. It’s perceived as more innocent.”

In fact, moms sometimes like their teenager’s fashion color so much, they’re asking for something similar themselves (much to their teen’s chagrin…). Either way, the Studio Prominence team can do it.

“We’re into all the cutting and coloring technique trends for 2018,” Blanchard said. “We’re definitely competent in offering the latest trends.”

Speaking of trends, on its website Studio Prominence features transformation photos of clients that demonstrate the latest and ever-growing options for the latest in hairstyles. Some of the before-and-after photos demonstrate how the right cut and color can, literally, transform you and make you feel as good as you look.

They’ve also expanded their product line, and now offer Loma, a local, organic line of hair products out of Monroe, Washington.

“I really believe in the product,” Blanchard said. “It’s a great product. And it’s part of our business model to support our local businesses.”

It’s been a busy year, and Blanchard couldn’t be happier. “The vision I had for this salon is coming to life,” she said.

And clients have noticed the effort. “Our strength is not just the quality of our service, but also the experience,” she said.
