Shoreline man drowns at Lake Ballinger Tuesday

UPDATE: The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 52-year-old man as Timothy A. Bergstrom. The cause of death is accidental drowning.

A 52-year-old man from Shoreline drowned in the Mountlake Terrace portion of Lake Ballinger on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Lake Ballinger touches Edmonds on portions of its west and south shores.

According to South County Fire spokeswoman Leslie Hynes, firefighters responded around 3:05 p.m. for a report of a swimmer in distress. A man had been on a raft in the lake with his friends.

The friends told firefighters the man went into the lake to retrieve an item that fell off the raft. His friends noticed he was in distress. They pulled the man aboard the raft and started CPR.

Firefighters launched a boat stationed at the lake. They transferred the victim to the boat and continued CPR as they brought the man to shore at the boat launch.

Efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful, and he died at the scene.

The victim’s name will be released by the Snohomish County Coroner’s Office.
