The Edmonds Police Department announced the passing of 11-year-old retired police dog Rocky on Tuesday, June 24.

He passed away from natural causes in the morning with Corporal Shane Hawley, his longtime handler, at his side.

Corporal Hawley and PD Rocky were a team from Jan. 2004 through Jan. 2011, resulting in the capture of 102 criminal suspects.

Their working career together culminated with Corporal Hawley being awarded the Meritorious Service Citation, and Rocky being awarded the Distinguished Service Citation for Valor in 2011.

Rocky had several medical/injury episodes during his working life, but he always powered through and came back even stronger, said the Edmonds Police Department.

For the past several years, Rocky has remained part of the Hawley household.
