Public Works' Darren Browning named Employee of the Year

Jan 28, 2018
Darren Browning is Edmonds’ latest Employee of the Year.

Each year, city employees nominate their co-workers for the Employee of the Year Award, given out at the annual year-end recognition of service. The Employee of the Year Award Committee, which is comprised of past city Employee of the Year Award winners, determines the final winner.

The Employee of the Year is given a plaque and presented with a $50 gift certificate to a local Edmonds restaurant in appreciation of their outstanding service.

This year, Darren Browning was awarded this special recognition for his excellent service, attitude and teamwork on Dec. 12. Browning has been with the Public Works department since 1998 in Street/Stormwater Maintenance.

Most recently, as the city’s traffic control technician, he has worked to enhance standards and update the city’s signal cabinet inventory.

Browning is known by his co-workers for his positive and professional demeanor and caring attitude, and his dedication to public service through his responsiveness to calls – which includes even checking in with the city during storm events when not called or on call.

During his almost two decades of tenure at the city, Browning has raised a family of four children. In 2016, he overcame a life-threatening condition while missing little work.

His most recent achievement is his new status as a grandparent to his new grandson, Jase, who was born in November.
