Port jazzes up boardwalk with summer music | Port View

I often like to remind our staff and customers that the Port of Edmonds isn’t in the marina business. We’re in the people business.

Take a look at our boardwalk and you’ll see what I mean. As the dark and rainy days of winter are now behind us, the public boardwalk is bustling with lots of new faces and many regulars: dog walkers, baby strollers, boaters, and entire families visiting the Port of Edmonds marina together.

We welcome one and all. It’s who we are. It’s in our DNA. In fact, it’s even our brand: “Your Homeport Advantage and Choice Destination: Quality, Service, Value, Convenience.”

Public access is part of that all-important value proposition, and that’s why June is one of my favorite months at the Port of Edmonds. The flowers in the public plaza along the boardwalk are in full bloom, and there is an excited buzz in our boatyard and marina as everyone gears up for a great summer.

When the people come out to the waterfront, the entire Port comes alive – blue sky, sun, sea breeze, pictures, conversation, smiles … and jazz music.

This will be the sixth year of our Sea Jazz concert series. It was inspired by the annual Daybreakers Rotary Club Jazz Connection, and created by the Port of Edmonds in 2012 to provide a quality, free and convenient experience for visitors of all ages.

Our goal is simple: Bring the music to the people.

Performances take place 5-7 p.m. every Wednesday and 1-3 p.m. Sunday through Sept. 20. Award-winning Edmonds School District student musicians perform on a rotating schedule, and always jam to all your favorite jazz numbers.

It’s a free show, but you can throw something in their tip jar if you’ve got the groove.

As the weather gets nicer, I recommend taking a stroll along the boardwalk, grabbing a meal at one of our waterfront restaurants, and treating yourself to some wonderful entertainment.

We look forward to seeing you around the Port of Edmonds marina on a nice summer day soon.
