A 36-year-old Mount Vernon man was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 5, and booked into the Snohomish County Jail after a vehicle collision during the Monday evening commute in Edmonds that left another motorist with injuries.

Edmonds police say the suspect – who has previous DUI convictions – was located Wednesday at a residence in Bellevue and brought back to the Edmonds police station, where he was interviewed by an investigator from the traffic unit.

The suspect admitted to drinking at a nearby business and driving away just before the collision. He said that after he crashed his vehicle into the victim’s, he was scared and ran from the scene.

According to Sgt. Josh McClure, the investigation started around 5:15 p.m. Monday, when Edmonds officers responded to a collision in the 23600 block of Highway 99.

Witnesses told them a male driver from one of the vehicles had fled the scene on foot. Officers from Edmonds and multiple law enforcement agencies responded, but the suspect was not located.

A 41-year-old woman from Seattle was left with face and body injuries before being transported to Harborview Medical Center, McClure said. She was released later that evening. The suspect’s vehicle had been impounded from the crash scene and investigators obtained a search warrant to assist with an investigation.

The suspect was booked for felony hit and run, vehicular assault, ignition interlock violation and driving with a suspended license.

The traffic unit is continuing to work on this investigation. If you have any information, you can contact Officer Swartz at 425-771-0200 or after business hours at 425-407-3999.
