Model trains on display Dec. 2

Nov 29, 2017

Members of the Swamp Creek and Western Railroad Association will operate their HO scale model trains 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Edmonds train depot, 210 Railroad Ave.

The SC&W is located in the former baggage room.

Many of the model trains operating on the layout are equipped with digital command control technology and will feature sound.

The layout features 400-feet of HO scale track that passes through miniature towns and detailed scenery. The route models travels from southwestern Washington near the Columbia River, over White Pass, and into the central part of the state.

This pathway was actually surveyed and nearly constructed by three transcontinental railroads (the Northern Pacific, the Union Pacific and the Milwaukee Road) in the late 1800s.

The layout is placed more than 4-feet above the floor. Parents and/or guardians of small children have to lift them up and hold them so they can see the layout of the trains. Parents and guardians must maintain a presence among their children while visiting.

Visitors should be aware that the narrow aisles of the layout might present limited ADA access.

The Swamp Creek & Western Railroad Association began in 1974 in a Lynnwood hobby shop. It has been located in the Edmonds station since 1977.

While viewing model trains, visitors are encouraged to ask questions about the layout and the hobby, but are asked to not touch the model trains and the layout.

Admission is free.
