Sophomore pitcher Kate Houghton recorded her fourth no-hitter of the season to lead Meadowdale to its fifth straight victory.

The Mavericks pounded out 15 hits to support Houghton in the 13-0 win over Shorewood Monday, May 7, at Meridian Fields in Shoreline.

Sophomore Olivia Dimmock was 2-for-3 with two doubles and sophomore Kaitlynn Bridgewater was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Meadowdale was coming off a 4-1 victory over district rival Edmonds-Woodway on Friday, May 4 at Meadowdale High School.

The Mavericks (12-5 in the league, 13-7 overall) finished second in the league behind district rival Edmonds-Woodway (13-4, 13-7). The Warriors defeated Lynnwood 11-8, while Meadowdale lost 10-5 to Mountlake Terrace on Tuesday, May 8.

Meadowdale coach Dennis Hopkins said that Houghton has grown into her starting pitching role throughout the season.

“She’s realizing what it takes to play at the varsity level,” Hopkins said. “She keeps pushing herself.”

It helps that senior Carrie Peterson is the Mavericks’ catcher.

“They’re working really good together,” Hopkins said. “(Peterson) has kind of a calming influence.”

Houghton’s other no-hitters were against Arlington, Shorecrest and Lynnwood.

Dimmock came up with the key hit against the Warriors, driving in two runs with a double in the third inning. Houghton allowed only four hits.

The Mavericks have put together a strong second half of the season, losing only three games, including two to two of the top teams in the Wesco 3A North – Snohomish and Everett.

“The possibility of making it back to state really has been the focal point,” Hopkins said. “We just need to keep playing like we have been in the second half of the season.”

The district tournament is scheduled for May 15-18 at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett. The top three teams advance to state.
