At a recently Edmonds School District Board of Directors meeting, physical education teachers and the parents of a student who died this year were honored.

Meadowdale student Matthew Truax died for a heart condition in September after collapsing at school during a P.E. class.

His parents, Jerry and Melinda Truax and teachers Jackie Bykonne, Dan Tayler, Greg Wirtz and Mike Don were recognized by the district and Meadowdale Principal Kevin Allen.

Allen said first responders who arrived at the scene were impressed how professionally everyone responded before they showed up. “Rarely do they ever show up to a scene where everything’s been done right,” he said. “I can assure you in times of crisis, not everyone can.”
