Coach: Kris Maraveller, 17th year

Top runners: Senior Colin Knechtel is a two-time state participant. He finished 45th at last year’s 3A boys state championships. At this month’s Carl Westling South Whidbey Invitational, Knechtel placed 28th. Freshmen Lance Brodenhausen, Thomas Stancik and Cole Sargent were 73rd, 77th and 81st. The top finishers in the girls race were freshman Ellie Lynch (71st), senior Kiara Dailer (72nd), freshman Clara Schmidt (73th) and sophomore Maya Dailer (76th).

From the coach: “We have several freshman boys in varsity currently. This is a young team, lots of inexperience but good talent. We have six sets of siblings on our team.”

King’s

Coach: Rod Wilcox, 22nd year

Top runners: The boys team is led by senior Cameron Chew. He placed 18th at state last year. The Knights’ top girl is sophomore Jenae McInnes who was 40th at state with a personal best time. Newcomer sophomore Naomi Smith is looking to run with the lead pack in every race this season. She is coming off of a great track season. Smith switched from volleyball to cross country this year. “She is just starting to learn this sport, but her work ethic and talent indicate a great future,” Wilcox said.

From the coach: “The girls have qualified to state as a team in 16 of the last 17 years. They plan on not only getting back to Pasco but getting back on the podium for the 14th time in the last 18 years. My boys team failed to qualify to state last year for only the third time in the last 26 years. They don’t plan to make it two years in a row without traveling to Pasco.”
