Meadowdale’s season came to a tough end.

Squalicum prevailed 5-4 in a shootout to pull out a 1-0 victory over the Mavericks in a Wesco 3A girls soccer play-in game Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Edmonds Stadium.

Meadowdale finished the year with a 6-5-5 overall record after going 2-13-1 in 2016.

“I couldn’t be happier with the way this season turned out,” first-year head coach Mike Nelson said. “We accomplished all of the things we had set forth at the beginning of the season. Hopefully, we’ve established a foundation that we can build off of.”

The Mavericks had some scoring opportunities against the Storm but weren’t able to finish them.

“I’m satisfied we were able to create those opportunities,” Nelson said. “I thought we did a great job applying pressure against them and getting everybody kind of involved in the work that created those opportunities.”
