Gallery North in Edmonds has named the winners of the annual, juried “Beauty of the Northwest” contest.

  • First place: Mary Anderson, "Foster Island Birches"
  • Second place: Kathy Collins, "Spectrum"
  • Third place: Cheryl A. Hufnagel, "Summer Garden"
  • Honorable mentions: Annette Hanna, "Hills Abloom"; Sarah Kulfan, "Clallam Co."
  • Show poster award: Beverly Fotheringham, "Shimmering Sunset"

The 2019 show included 58 pieces of artwork created by 37 artists. Many of the artists participating in the show were in attendance at the awards ceremony Aug. 10.

Darlene Lucas, a local artist who has exhibited in many galleries and special exhibitions throughout the state, was the awards juror. She commented on the high quality of the show and the difficulty in selecting just a few awards for so many exceptional entries.

Gallery North will have another reception 5-8 p.m. during the Edmonds Third Thursday Art Walk Aug. 15, from 5 to 8pm. “The Beauty of Northwest Show” will be on display, and artwork will be available for purchase through August 30.

All the pieces included in the show can also be viewed on the Gallery North website at

Gallery North is at 401 Main St., Edmonds.
