Letters to the Editor-Planning and priorities needed

By Ron Johnson | May 17, 2012

Several weeks ago I sent an email to the City Council, with a copy to the Beacon, asking for the status of the 5 Corners project.

As this was published in the Beacon, it did receive some visibility. To date the council has refused to answer my questions.

Are they trying to keep their actions out of sight to the citizens of Edmonds?

Now we hear that finances are so dire a hiring freeze has been implemented.

Additionally they will submit a ballot issue to fund park maintenance and other projects through a new property tax.

Add to this the cost overrun debacle on the park project on 76th, and the failed attempt to buy the old Skippers Fish and Chips building for nearly a million dollars.

I'm all for a beautiful Edmonds, but when it's citizens must live within their means, so must the city.

It would appear on the surface that there is a lack of planning and the setting of the proper priorities necessary for spending a limited amount of funds.

In other words, more bang for the buck.
