King’s takes third in Scholastic Cup | Sports brief

King’s High School finished third in the 2016-17 1A Scholastic Cup and Edmonds-Woodway placed 10th among 3A schools.

King’s boys track and field team won the state academic title. The Knights’ choir and drama teams also were state academic champions.

Edmonds-Woodway’s boys cross country team also won a state academic title.

Freeman captured the 1A title in a close race with Lynden Christian. Interlake won the 3A classification.

The Scholastic Cup is the WIAA’s most prestigious annual school award. The year-long competition recognizes the top school in each of the six WIAA classifications based on academic, athletic and sportsmanship excellence. Points are awarded by a school’s finish in each of the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Championships and Academic State Championships.
