Roland E. Henson Sr., a fixture around town and especially the Edmonds Senior Center, died Aug. 28 at age 77.

The Beacon took this photo in September 2016 as he sat on a bench at Olympic Beach.

Roland was known for his contagious smile, his constant coffee cup, his never-ending stories and his love of quirky hats.

There was no person he met who wasn't a friend.

Roland is survived by his many siblings and family members still living in his native Arkansas, in addition to his five children: Bridgid, Roland Jr., Milniece, Jack, Jill, as well as six grandchildren.
