Four Edmonds-Woodway music students were awarded the annual Kyle Humann Music Scholarship for free private lessons at the school’s fall concert.

Humann, a trumpeter and 2005 E-W graduate, has donated to the EWHS Music Boosters each year since 2015.

Students apply, get recommendations and audition for the prize, said Jake Bergevin, director of bands.

"Kyle Humann is a model of what we're trying to teach in public school music education,” he said.

“He is a life-long musician, and is also giving back to the community that helped him develop his passion. It's amazing to see the power of music take hold of these young people and transform their lives for the better.

“Former winners have made immense progress and are current leaders of our program."
