Diane Buckshnis and Jenna Nand, competing for Position 4 on the Edmonds City Council, have announced the dates for their campaign kickoffs.

Although both filed in May, they are the final two of the eight candidates vying for four seats on the council to have kickoff events. All have advanced to the November general election, as each open position has only two candidates. The primary election is Aug. 6.

Newcomer Nand’s kickoff is 2-5 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at Anthony’s HomePort, 456 Admiral Way. There will be seafood appetizers and entrée items, vegetarian and vegan options, and a hosted bar with beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages

Nand’s news release says, “Ask the candidate questions, and hear more about Jenna's views on important issues, such as development on the waterfront and keeping Edmonds affordable for its longtime residents.”

At 3 p.m., there will be an indigenous acknowledgement and land blessing by Maizy Bear, Indigenous Program Director at Farmer Frog. It will be followed by speeches from former state Sen. Maralyn Chase and Talal Hatter, owner of the North Star Treatment Group.

Nand is scheduled to speak at 3:45 p.m. after an introduction by local author Moses Howard (Musa Nagenda).

Attendees can RSVP on Eventbrite or the campaign’s Facebook page.

Incumbent Buckshnis has her kickoff 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Gallaghers’ Where-U-Brew, hosted by Tom and Marie Kretzler at the brewery, 180 W. Dayton St. in Harbor Square.

"After nine years on the City Council, my positions on issues are fully documented and I have helped shape Edmonds' future in a positive way,” Buckshnis wrote in a news release.

“I hope to continue working for the citizens of Edmonds and want to hear your stories. So come enjoy a relaxing evening with me, my friends and supporters."

Beer, wine and nonalcoholic beverages will be available, as well as pizza and other snacks.
