Edmonds-Woodway's Paulson takes second at Snohomish Summer Smash | Tennis

Edmonds-Woodway’s Natalie Paulson finished second in the Girls Gold Division at the fifth annual Snohomish Summer Smash Saturday, July 27, at Snohomish High School.

Kamiak’s Leah Robison defeated Paulson 6-1, 6-4, in the singles championship match. Paulson, a 3A state participant, prevailed 6-2, 7-5 over Snohomish’s Emily Adell in the quarterfinals then beat Lake Stevens’ Alexandria Medina 6-4, 6-3 in the semifinals.

Robison also teamed up with Kamiak’s Jaeden Tongco to capture the Mixed Doubles Division title. Robison and Tongco defeated Snohomish’s Adam Kowalchyk and Natalie Stern 6-2, 6-3 in the finals.

Jackson’s Brady Thomas, who finished second at the 4A state tournament, did not drop a single game en route to winning the Boys Gold Division singles championship. Thomas beat Lake Stevens’ Ethan Hoglund 6-0, 6-0 in the finals. Thomas also teamed up with Jackson’s Anuj Vimawala to beat Snohomish’s Cade Strickland and Macen Strickland 6-0, 6-0 to win the Boys Gold Doubles title. Vimawala and Jackson’s Daniel Sohn won the 4A state doubles crown last spring.

Jackson’s Shubhi Handa and Naisha Sinha defeated Snohomish’s Jadyn Mueller and Lauren Riske 4-6, 6-0, 12-10 in the Girls Gold Division Doubles finals.

The tournament featured 67 participants from 16 high schools, from Bellingham to Seattle.
