Edmonds-Woodway used some of the consistency it’s been searching for this season to overcome a tough start against Lynnwood.

The Warriors fell behind 12-8 early against the Royals before outscoring Lynnwood 34-18 in the second and third quarters en route to a 53-45 victory in a Wesco 3A boys basketball game Friday, Jan. 25, at Lynnwood High School.

Edmonds-Woodway stretched the lead to 15 points in the fourth quarter before Lynnwood closed the gap with a 3-pointer and a lay-up with about a minute and a half left in the contest.

“We were staying consistent and staying with what we do,” Edmonds-Woodway coach Robert Brown said.

“We were not letting the scoreboard worry us. It’s a pace and tempo thing with us.”

Senior guard Chinedu Acholonu scored a game-high 15 points and junior guard Mutdung Bol finished with 10 points for the Warriors (7-5 in the league, 11-8 overall).

The Warriors were coming off a 65-45 loss to Mountlake Terrace Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Edmonds-Woodway High School. Edmonds-Woodway saw a 35-25 halftime deficit turn into 54-33 by the end of the third quarter.

Brown said that the Warriors played better defense against the Royals.

“We pressured the basketball the way we like to do,” he said. “We were more consistent with our teamwork. I was pleased with the effort.”

Since they are not exactly an offensive juggernaut, Brown said, the Warriors get a boost on offense when the team is playing solid defense.

“When we’re causing a little havoc, we can turn that into offense,” Brown said.

Acholonu has either been the leading or second leading scorer for the Warriors in each of their last four games. Brown is hoping he and Bol will continue to put up the points.

“Having those two going together would be a welcome sight,” he said.

E-W closes out the regular season with a pair of home games against Shorewood and Cedarcrest.
