Edmonds-Woodway rebounded well after losing only its third game of the season.

Junior Sophia Martino-Crew recorded a hat trick to lead the Warriors to a 4-0 victory over Arlingon in a winner-to-state/loser-out game Thursday, Nov. 1, at Shoreline Stadium.

Sydney Scott had the other goal for the Warriors, who were scheduled to play Lakeside in a first-round 3A state tournament game Wednesday, Nov. 7, after the Beacon’s deadlines.

Shorewood upset Edmonds-Woodway (16-3 overall), the Wesco 3A champion, 2-1 in the district semifinals. The Warriors had defeated the Thunderbirds 2-0 late in the regular season.

Edmonds-Woodway coach Bill LeCompte was pleased with how the Warriors responded against the Eagles.

“We came out of the game feeling pretty good,” he said.

In their previous meeting, the Warriors edged Arlington 3-2 in double overtime.

“We were able to capitalize on opportunities We were able to create more opportunities,” LeCompte said. “We did a little formational change. … It allowed us to do different things with our attack. It opened opportunities up to run into some spaces.

“We create opportunities based off of personnel group. It worked pretty well against Arlington.”

Edmonds-Woodway also made some changes on defense that stifled the Eagle attack.

The Warriors countered the speed Arlington had up front.

“Those changes produced less opportunities for them and better possession for us,” LeCompte said.
