Edmonds killer gets almost 14 years

An Edmonds man who pled guilty to second-degree murder of a roommate was sentenced Monday, March 19, in Snohomish County Superior Court to 13 years and eight months in prison.

Derrick Elijah “Wiz” Crawford, 22 could have received up to 22 years. He admitted in February to killing 27-year-old Joshua Werner on Jan. 6.

According to Edmonds police, the incident started as a report of a gunshot heard by residents from within a north Edmonds home in the 17700 block of 76th Ave. W.

He later was captured in a residence in the 6000 block of Broadway in Everett. He was found hiding in a closet by members of the Edmonds Police Detective and Street Crimes Units, along with help from the Snohomish County Regional Task Force.

Crawford was a student in the Mukilteo School District, having attended Mukilteo Elementary, Olympic View Middle School, and Kamiak High School before transferring to ACES High School.
