Edmonds-Woodway senior Yukino Parle recorded one of her biggest victories of the season by capturing the Nike Hole in the Wall Invitational Saturday, Oct. 7, at Lakewood High School.

Parle edged defending 4A state girls cross country champion Taylor Roe of Lake Stevens at the finish line. The Edmonds-Woodway standout, who won the 3,200-meter race at the 2016 state track and field championships, finished with a time of 17 minute, 46.6 seconds just head of Roe, who clocked in at 17:47.1. Parle finished seventh in the 3A cross country meet last year.

Roe, a junior, is the two-time defending 4A state girls cross country champion and a two-time state track champion in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Edmonds-Woodway junior Olivia Meader-Yetter placed seventh and junior Stephanie Wroblewski was 17th. Earlier in the week, Parle was named one of the Washingtion Interscholastic Activities Association’s athletes of the week for Sept. 24-30. Parle beat a field of 231 competitors in the girls 3A/4A race at the 5K Marysville Twilight Meet on Sept. 30.
