The Edmonds-Woodway boys track and field team came up big at one of the largest invitationals in the state.

The Warriors finished second overall to Glacier Peak at the 31st annual Eason Invitational Saturday, April 20, at Snohomish High School.

The Grizzlies scored 36 points to edge Edmonds-Woodway by .5 points in the final team standings.

Edmonds-Woodway’s seniors Dylan Hartono and Deyago Peraza finished first and second in the 3,200-meter race. Hartono won in 9 minutes, 20.04 seconds, while his teammate clocked in at 9:21.99. Both times were personal bests. Hartono and Peraza weren’t the only Warriors to run their fastest races of their high school careers or of the season.

Senior Lucas Lacambra placed second in the 1,600 in 4:17.09 (personal record) and senior Grant Christian was seventh in the 800 in 1:57.51 (season record). Chinedu Acholonu ended up ninth in the 200 with a time of 22.64 (season record).

Edmonds-Woodway took ninth in the girls meet and had several noteworthy performances. All three of the relays produced their best times of the season.

The 1,600 relay squad of Erin Franciso, Gaby Chappell, Kaddy Kongira and Kaitlyn Rust placed fourth in 4:09.84. The 400 relay team of Nevaeh Gary, Kongira, Michaela Danyo and Chappell finished sixth with a time of 50.58. Ellie Gard, Rust, Chiara Serafini and Alyssa Hershey placed second in the distance medley relay (1,200-400-800-1,600).

“Completely across the board they rose to the level of competition and did their best of the year,” E-W coach Rick Filman said of his team. “That was nice to see ... They went out and performed.”
