Crumb rubber OK’d for Meadowdale Playfields

Jun 28, 2017

The Lynnwood City Council has voted to approve crumb-rubber infill at the Meadowdale Playfields.

The sprawling fields, currently with natural grass, are located in the city of Lynnwood. The facility was developed as a joint project between the cities of Lynnwood and Edmonds, the Edmonds School District and Snohomish County.

The $2.5 million project to renovate the fields includes $500,000 from Edmonds, which hosts adult sports programs there. Parks and Recreation Director Carrie Hite said the city’s portion would go to seating and other items, not turf.

The city of Edmonds has a ban on the installation of synthetic turf made from recycled tires until it gathers more definitive information on its health effects.

The extension continues through February 2018.
