The city of Edmonds and Sno-Isle Libraries are currently discussing concerns that City Councilmember Dave Teitzel has raised several issues with the Edmonds Library, including the possibility of it becoming obsolete over time, whether it is the highest and best use of the building at 650 Main St., and whether it could moved to another location, such as Highway 99.

Teitzel says property taxes collected by Sno-Isle Edmonds from citizens exceeds Sno-Isle’s investment in the Edmonds Library, which equates to Edmonds subsidizing the SnoIsle Library system.

The amounts Sno-Isle collects from other Snohomish County cities was provided at a recent Finance Committee meeting.

Finance Director Scott James has met with Mayor Dave Earling, City Attorney Jeff Taraday and with the Sno-Isle Director and Assistant Director regarding the disparity.

A future meeting is being scheduled.

The Beacon will provide more details as they are available.
