Council OKs Waterfront Connector hybrid

Oct 26, 2018

Four votes were enough Tuesday to approve Mayor Dave Earling’s hybrid proposal of the Edmonds Street Waterfront Connect.

Voting yes were Councilmembers Tom Mesaros, Neil Tibbett, Kristiana Johnson and Dave Teitzel. Voting against were Council President Mike Nelson and Councilmembers Diane Buckshnis and Adrienne Fraley-Monillas.

The $27 million project – the vast majority of funds to come from government grants – would construct a single-lane structure from the intersection of Edmonds Street and Sunset Avenue to the parking lot at Brackett’s Landing North.

The proposed connector would be a hybrid of two choices that councilmembers and the public agreed on, the “Promenade” and “Land Bridge.”

When completed, it would allow emergency access to the ferry, marina, senior center, residences and businesses on the west side of the BNSF train tracks, in addition to providing access to pedestrians and bicyclists.
