Concerned about Port project

If I were an engineer, I would be thankful for the separate letters from two colleagues at a local engineering firm voicing support for the Port’s Vision for Harbor Square (Beacon 7/26/12).

A massive construction project will provide one time revenue for a few engineering firms.

If I were a real estate agent, I would be eternally grateful to the Port Board and major supporter, Chamber of Commerce for pushing this project forward under the leadership of two prominent local real estate agents.  350 new listings; thanks for this one time income.

But, as a concerned citizen who retired in Edmonds to enjoy a high quality of life, the Port’s Vision has few redeeming qualities and, even those are more than offset by many high, ongoing costs. Prominent among them for many property owners on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th will be depressed property values and ruined water views. While this cost aspect of the Port’s Vision may not directly impact you, others will.

Who knows, you may even be affected by a project and associated high, long term costs in your neighborhood if the Port’s Vision of massive designs including 55’+ building height is incorporated into the overall City Comprehensive Plan.
