Barbara Giske: 1924-2018

Nov 07, 2018

Barbara Giske passed away peacefully in Edmonds on October 28, 2018, at the age of 93.

Barbara was born in Seattle on November 16, 1924, to Myrtle and William Riedel. She moved to Edmonds at the age of 10 from Seattle.

She graduated from Edmonds High School in 1942, and then attended the University of Washington, where she joined Alpha Chi Omega sorority and developed very special friendships, which have been an important part of her life.

While at UW, Barbara received a B.A. degree in Business and Economics. Barbara worked for many years as a secretary for the Edmonds School District. Those who knew Barbara would say she enjoyed a good game of bridge or cribbage, visiting Hood Canal, spending time with her family, and supporting progressive community organizations.

She is survived by her three children, Ridelle Roper (Bob), Sally Forgette and Carol Lager (Jim); her six grandchildren, Jennifer Roper, Jeffery Roper, Miles Forgette, Mark Forgette, Aaron Metzler (Alicia), and Michelle Metzler (Lora); great grandchild Finnley; and niece Barbara Wilson.

In 1972 Barbara married Howard Giske, and her family grew with Howard’s three children, Howard Skip Giske (Beth), Laura Ray (Robert), and Steve Giske (Kathy).

At Barbara’s request, the family is planning a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest.
