Andreas (Andy) G. Bohnhoff: 1955-2017

Dec 20, 2017

Andy (Andreas G. Bohnhoff) passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 13, 2017. He was born March 4, 1955, in West Berlin, Germany. As a toddler, he and his family immigrated to Canada. At age 6, Andy and his family moved to Yakima, where he spent his childhood and teenage years.

Andy was an avid skier, and White Pass was his “stomping grounds” on weekends during the winter. Upon graduation from high school, Andy attended Central Washington University. He was awarded a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting; he later earned his Certified Public Accountant credential.

Andy practiced his early career in Renton, then relocated to Lynnwood. That proved to be a fortuitous decision, as through staff connections he met his wife, Cathy. They eventually settled in Edmonds, where they raised two wonderful daughters and established a community of friends and neighbors.

Andy loved his family and concentrated his time and energy on them. The past couple years he changed career paths, left accounting and entered into the world of Uber driving. We enjoyed the more relaxed father and husband, and loved hearing his stories of the various personalities he encountered!

In March 2017, Andy was diagnosed with metastatic cancer, which he bravely fought with his body, mind and soul. In many ways, his last several months of life hold some of our most cherished memories, especially our Mother’s Day 2017 trip to Whidbey Island. We deeply miss our beloved husband, father, son, brother and uncle.

Not only does Andy live on in our hearts and memories – he generously donated his corneas. A grateful 42-year-old female has had her sight restored thanks to Andy’s generosity. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Ward and the staff at Swedish Cancer Institute and the Radiation Oncology clinics for their care and concern for Andy and our family during his illness. A service to honor him will be held 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Edmonds Center for the Arts.

We look forward to our family, and circle of friends and community to join us in celebrating his life.
