The numbers are looking awfully good for the Edmonds-Woodway boys tennis team.

Through Monday, the Warriors sported a 5-0 record in the Wesco 3A South and were 9-0 overall. Edmonds-Woodway has lost only five out of 63 matches the entire season – two each to nonconference opponents Kamiak and Lake Stevens and one to nonconference opponent Snohomish.

The Warriors have posted 6-0 victories over Wesco 3A South rivals Archbishop Murphy, Lynnwood, Shorecrest, Meadowdale and Mountlake Terrace.

Edmonds-Woodway coach Dan Crist noted that the final scores don’t necessarily indicate how close some matches have been.

“We’ve won some three set matches. We’ve won some tiebreakers,” Crist said. “Things have been going our way.”

Both No. 1 singles player Will Molinaro and No. 2 singles player Jordan Megiverson are undefeated this season. Molinaro transferred into Edmonds-Woodway last spring from Florida.

“He’s solid. He’s a good player. Maybe more importantly he’s a nice guy,” Crist said.

Crist noted that sometimes it’s difficult for someone to join a team and all of sudden beat his new teammates, some of whom have been with the team for four years. But Molinaro fit right in with his teammates, Crist said.

The singles lineup is rounded out with Tai Starchman and T.J. Oliver.

The Warriors’ doubles lineup also has been stellar. Alec Matulka/Drew Boland, Gabe Cano/Harrison Steiner and Dylan Strauss/Zach Foreman have teamed up since early in the season.

“I always establish the doubles team early and try not to switch them,” Crist said. “We try to get it set the first week and stay with it.

Edmonds-Woodway is scheduled to host defending league champion Shorewood at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at Edmonds-Woodway High School. The Thunderbirds 4-0 in the league and 7-1 overall.
