A look back at Highway 99 in Edmonds

Edmonds and the surrounding area certainly has changed a lot, as you can in this photo from 65 years taken by the Edmonds Tribune-Review newspaper.

(That paper ceased publication more than 35 years ago, and the only newspaper in Edmonds is now the Edmonds Beacon.)

It shows Esperance looking north along Pacific Highway and Highway 99.

Esperance Grade School is on the left, located at 7821 224th SW. The school is no longer there.

Part of the Interurban Trail is at top right. Also show is the intersection of 76th Avenue West and Highway 99, now State Route 99 or Aurora Avenue North.

You can see more of what the city has planned for Highway 99, known back in the day as North Trunk Road, on the city's website.
