A look at the Wesco softball playoffs

It's hard to believe, but the regular season is already grinding to a close and the playoffs will soon be beginning for most spring teams.

Here's a breakdown of the playoff scenarios for local softball teams.

Softball

4A

In the 4A Wesco league, the top six teams advance to the district tournament, which will be held starting on Tuesday, May 19. The finals will be held on Thursday, May 21 at 5 p.m. All games will be played at Sky River Park in Monroe.

As of Thursday, April 30, here are the standings:

If the season ended today, Jackson would be the No. 3 team, facing off against the No. 6 team (currently Mount Vernon), while Kamiak is No. 5 and would play the No. 4 team, Monroe.

The top two teams from the district tournament advance to the state tournament, which will be held May 29-30 at Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.

3A

In the 3A Wesco league, the top eight teams from the Wesco South and North leagues advance to the district tournament, which begins May 19 at Phil Johnson Fields in Everett. The championships will be held on May 21 at 6 p.m.

If the season ended today, Meadowdale would be the No. 2 team, behind Everett in first place. The Mavericks would play the No. 7 seed, while Edmonds-Woodway is likely to be the No. 3 or No. 4 team and would play either the No. 6 or No. 5 team in the first round. Glacier Peak would likely be the No. 8 team and would play the No. 1 team.

The top three teams from districts advance to the 3A state tournament, held May 29-30 at Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey, Wash.

2A

The District 1 2A softball tournament includes the top eight teams from the Cascade and Northwest Conferences.

The tournament begins May 20 at Janicki Fields in Sedro-Woolley. The championships will be play on May 22.

Archbishop Murphy, currently the No. 3 team in the Cascade Conference, would be tied with Sehome with a 10-4 league record. The Wildcats would likely be the No. 3 or No. 4 team and would play the No. 6 or No. 5 teams.

The top four teams advance to the state tournament, which runs May 29-30 at Carlon Park in Selah.
