Get vaccinated!

By Barbara Tipton | Apr 12, 2012

For days, baby Alice’s life hung in the balance. Only 6 weeks old, she was too young to be vaccinated against whooping cough.

She was buoyed by exceptional care from Children’s Hospital staff and the countless prayers from family and friends.

Alice is one of the lucky ones. She survived her ordeal and is on the mend.

Alice is neither a poster child nor a symbol. She is a real person. My husband and I have a friendship with Alice’s grandparents that spans decades.

Like most of you, I despair that an average person cannot save the world. However, collectively we can make a difference.

If you want to contribute to the effort to end this epidemic – the Seattle times reported that 650 cases of whooping cough have been reported in our state this year – please contact your medical provider and get vaccinated.

And everybody needs to be vaccinated, especially those who have contact with young children.

If you are not able to pay for a vaccination, you can receive a free shot on Saturday, April 21, at Pacific Medical Center in Lynnwood. Thank you.
