2017 Bastille Day petanque tournament results

Aug 07, 2017

On July 16, members of the Edmonds Petanque Club marked the French national holiday of Bastille Day with the club’s annual Bastille Day Petanque Tournament at the Edmonds Civic Playfield.

A full weekend of petanque started the day before when players from 80 to 94 years of age competed in the second annual Platinum Players Tournament, also at the playfield.

In the Platinum Players Tournament, local petanque standout Ed Cornachio took the top prize gold medal. Yvonne Mansson, also from Edmonds, won the silver medal, and Sally Rockwell from nearby Richmond Beach finished in third place.

Forty-four players took part in the Bastille Day Tournament, cheered on by family and friends. In this all-comers tournament that welcomes beginners as well as experts to play the French national game, it is fitting that Remy Pujol from France won top honors and took home the gold medal.

Jerry Fireman from the Edmonds Petanque Club finished with silver honors in second place, and Bekah Howe of the Port Townsend Petanque Alliance finished in third position.

The next event on the local petanque tournament schedule is the Edmonds Petanque Club’s annual tournament to support the Edmonds Food Bank. All proceeds from the Sept. 9 event will be dedicated to support this important local institution.

Over the past five years, the club has contributed over $25,000 to the food bank.
