The Taste: The Beatniks are back; beer garden free again

The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce heard you.

Taste Edmonds, the chief fundraiser for the chamber, has decided to nix two major changes implemented at last year’s event.

First, the Beatniks are back and will have its temporary Friday night slot when the Taste returns Aug. 16-18 at Civic Field.

The popular cover group had been a mainstay for years until 2018, when Chamber President Greg Urban decided to switch to a more modern, alt-rock format.

It didn’t go well.

“The entertainment is 95 percent booked, and a huge improvement over last year,” Urban said.

The second change is the price. Last year was $3 at the gate, which was usual, but the Taste added a $6 charge for daily entry into the 21-plus area, commonly known as the beer garden.

This year, the gate charge is raised to $5, free for children 12 and under, but the entry fee for the beer garden – which also included wine and food trucks last year – has been nixed.

“The multilevel pricing last year was too complicated for many of the attendees and the volunteers at the gates,” Urban said. “We wanted to simplify the entry process.”

Taste Edmonds is a fundraiser to support local nonprofits, services clubs and free community events.

One thing hasn’t changed. The chamber last year changed the longstanding name of the event, A Taste of Edmonds, to Taste Edmonds. The name remains.

But you can still call it “The Taste.”
