As an outgrowth of a recent burglary forum hosted by the Edmonds Police Department, Snohomish County Prosecutor Adam Cornell will hold another open house aimed at demystifying what the Prosecutor’s Office is responsible for.

“Prosecuting burglaries and other felony property offenses: From arrest to sentencing” will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Library, 650 Main St., Edmonds.

According to a news release, the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office is tasked with prosecuting all felony crimes committed throughout Snohomish County.

The community outreach meeting, led by Cornell, will provide background on how felony property cases, such as burglary, move through the office.

There will be discussion about when and why prosecutors are allowed to ask to hold someone in jail before trial, how the Prosecutor’s Office interacts with victims, witnesses, and different police agencies, and what types of sentences are authorized under law in property cases such as burglary.

A question and answer period will follow the formal presentation.

Cornell, and Edmonds resident, took office in January after running uncontested in the November election.
