King’s baseball, soccer teams advance

The King’s baseball team wrapped up the regular season with two series sweeps over rivals Granite Falls and Sultan in North Sound Conference baseball action.

The Knights (10-5 in the league, 11-9 overall) finished third in the league and will face Overlake in a first-round 1A Bi-District tournament game at noon, Saturday, May 4, at Joe Martin Stadium in Bellingham.

King’s defeated Granite Falls 6-0, 10-2 and 4-3 then overwhelmed Sultan 20-0, 16-1 and 12-0 to finish with its best league and overall record in school history. The Knights recorded their first series sweep in history over Coupeville earlier in the season.

Christian Engmann and Jack McCallister scored goals to lead King’s to a 2-0 victory over Meridian in 1A District boys soccer tournament game Monday, April 29, at Meridian High School.

Senior Gunnar Morehead recorded the shutout for the Knights (9-3-1). King’s takes on South Whidbey in the district championship game at 5 p.m., Saturday, at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo. The Falcons (13-1) blanked Lynden Christian 3-0. South Whidbey defeated King’s 2-1 and 2-0 during the regular season. Regardless of Saturday’s results, both teams advance to the Bi-District tournament.
