The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce has announced a $1,500 pledge of support from Jeff and Erika Barnett of Salish Sea Brewing Company towards the annual July 4th Beat Brackett 5K race.

“Celebrations like An Edmonds Kind of 4th are important to the fabric of our community,” said Greg Urban, president and CEO of the chamber.

“The Edmonds 4th of July celebration is unique in how it brings together Edmonds residents, families from surrounding communities and visitors from the U.S. and Canada. The Edmonds Chamber of Commerce and Edmonds Chamber Foundation are grateful to Salish Sea Brewing Company for providing this generous support, which helps to ensure An Edmonds Kind of 4th can continue for another year.”

Urban said he hopes Salish’s support serves to encourage others to support the July 4 activities.

“Many people in the community don’t realize that the 4th of July celebration is privately funded by the Edmonds Chamber and Edmonds Chamber Foundation,” he said.

“No tax dollars are used. It is due to our business owners and private donations that we have the Beat Brackett 5K, fireworks and parades each year in Edmonds.”

The Beat Brackett 5K is electronically timed, using chips on each runner to provide accurate and quick results that will be posted online in real time. Runners can run in their own shirt or in the official 2019 Beat Brackett 5K shirt.

There is also a competition for the best “Fourth-Themed” runner.

In addition to trying to win their age bracket, runners will attempt to “Beat ol’ man Brackett.” One special runner is designated as George Brackett (the founder of Edmonds) and one goal is to beat him to the finish line. Those who beat Brackett to the finish line get a wristband proclaiming “I Beat Brackett 2019.”

Attracting over 700 participants, the Beat Brackett 5K is the kick-off to a full day of 4th of July festivities taking place in downtown Edmonds.

The Beat Brackett 5K is Thursday, July 4, and starts at Edmonds City Park on Third Avenue South. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., and the race starts at 9. All participants are asked to arrive before 8:30 a.m. to pick up their race bib and materials.

There is a $30 registration fee, which includes a race shirt, or $25 without a shirt. Day of event registration is available for $30, but shirts are not guaranteed.

Participants can pre-register at, or can contact the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce office at 425-670-1496.
