	    <description>
	        Editor:
The city is presenting a park renaming opportunity for the public to rename the little park down by the ferry dock known as SR104.
The VFW the Chamber of commerce and many citizens are willing to contribute to a memorial on that site honoring our veteran's.
Please sign an entry form renaming this park to Veteran's Memorial Park.
You may email to Parknaming@edmondswa.gov.
You can pick up a form at city ...

    <title>Drunk drivers – take the bus</title>

	    <description>
	        Editor:
We’ve been reading of two interesting and important issues coming up before the legislature: a comprehensive transportation bill, listed by Governor Inslee as a top priority for the Special Session – and a movement to lower the percentage of blood alcohol permissible for drivers, together with increased penalties for drunk driving.
Especially for Edmonds, the two bills have a relationship, which I have ...

Street Crisis?
I read with interest the article in the May 9, edition of the Becon, written by Phil Williams outlining what he describes as the growing &quot;crisis&quot; that is the condition of our streets.
He points out that there are not enough funds available to maintain the streets, much less improve them.
Does anyone remember the Main Street project from last year, it cost not only a great deal of money but ...

John Pierre wants elimination of Miranda Rights given to &quot;some miscreant because under certain circumstances the required delivery of the &quot;rights&quot; is ludicrous.&quot;
The fact is Mr. Pierre, the Constitution of the United States allows for one to have such a right under the fifth and sixth amendments.
Does Mr. Pierre want to eliminate those amendments and any other parts of the Constitution that he doesn't ...

I would like to sing praises to &quot;Frannie&quot; the un-sung hero of Edmonds who in the past eleven years has circulated the streets of Edmonds picking up litter along with doggie droppings in our beautiful town. May your kindness and generosity bring joy to others! Thank you from your new friend on Sunset Avenue.

The Floretum Garden Club wants to thank the community which supported our May 4, Plant Sale.
Our club sold many plants on a beautiful day. We will use the proceeds for horticultural scholarships.
Now keep us in mind for next year on the Saturday a week before Mother's Day, a tradition for many years of Edmonds Floretum Garden Club's history.

	    <description>
	        Editor:
I have not weighed in on the debacle about coal trains because whatever I say probably won't change any minds.
All anyone has to do is see the results of what massive coal pollutants do to the environment. If there is only one thing that the so-called greenies have right this is it.
Just look at the pictures from Beijing.
Most of the population ware masks over their face and nostrils.
The sky is a dark ...

The continuing rant by our foremost authority on the coal train issue; non-other than the &quot;Constant Curmudgeon&quot; is so telling it is almost humorous.
John Pierre is not against coal trains. He is (and always has been) against ENVIRONMENTALISTS! Better known to him as &quot;Greenies&quot;!

I was relieved and entertained by the Port of Edmonds’ withdrawal of its Land Use Application to have the City adopt the Port's Harbor Square Master Plan as a Comprehensive Plan Amendment or Sub Area Plan.

Mr. Pierre’s column “Complaining about the Railroads” came to my attention last week when a friend emailed me a link to it.
After reading it a few times I began to think Mr. Pierre, in his folksy charming way, was just trying to get a raise out some of the readers. Seeing who might rise to the bait, so to speak.
He went so far as to toss a gauntlet asking for proof that coal dust “might cause any damage ...

	    <description>
	        Editor:
Thank you for John Pierre’s “Constant Curmudgeon” article in the Edmonds Beacon, April 25, 2013. He is spot on.
It is so easy to jump on the &quot;green&quot; wagon because it is the thing to do. They just take the bits and pieces that suit them.
They never look at the scientific evidence. If these &quot;greenies&quot; are so concerned about the coal dust, what about the hazardous wastes that are transported by rail?
Thank ...

Anti-train lobbies? Chronic complainers? Greenies? Strong language in article: “Complaining about the railroads” by The Constant Curmudgeon in the 4/15/13 Edmonds Beacon.
That we don’t like trains is a total misconception. It totally misses the point that the real concern is COAL.
The proposed coal terminal at Cherry Point provides for a river of coal to move along our beautiful and iconic Columbia River ...

In November 2012, our trusty model year 2000 Toyota 4-Runner was consigned to the bone yard. For the last several years, our car was kept on life support by the skilled mechanics at Magic Toyota. But it was time to pull the plug. So we decided to buy a brand new Toyota Prius V.
Lo and behold. Our new car was the subject of the cleverly titled letter, “Oh no! Not my Prius”, written by frequent Edmonds ...

	    <description>
	        Dear Mayor and Councilmembers:
I have serious questions about the process used by the Council during the deliberations regarding the Harbor Square Master Plan.
The questions are:

1. Could you please explain how the choice to not accept the Port's Plan but begin drafting a &quot;Council&quot; sub area plan was consistent with the State Growth Management Act specifically, RCW 43.21C.420 which requires the city to prepare a ...

Picture the Edmonds ecos exclaiming “wealthy Republicans are destroying the planet!” when they find their Prius driving next to a ‘one per-center’ in a BMW.
Per the EPA, the Toyota Prius ( 2012 ) generates 190 grams (g) of tailpipe CO2 emissions per mile driven (98020.)
Try the Atlanta zip of 30303 for your 2012 Prius - 220 g per mile driven.
