Young musicians may audition to perform solo with symphony

The winner will perform as a soloist with the symphony at its Children’s Concert

The Cascade Symphony is accepting applications for its 2013-14 Rising Star Competition. The winner will perform as a soloist with the symphony at its Children’s Concert on Feb. 22, 2014.

Cascade Symphony is seeking applicants for the following instruments: piano, violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium/tuba, percussion or harp.

For piano or violin, applicants must be 12 years old or younger on the day of the concert. For other instruments, applicants must be 15 years or younger on the day of the concert.

Applicants must submit a CD of their performance of the concerto movement specified on the application for each instrument.

The performance must be uncut, unedited and unaccompanied. There is a non-refundable application fee of $10. Finalists may be asked to audition in person, and winners will be notified by Dec. 15.

Winners must be available to rehearse with the Cascade Symphony on Feb. 16, 2014 as well as for the performance on Feb. 22, 2014.  The concert will be held at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.
