Who’s responsible for Edmonds’ entrances? | Letter
Editor, The Beacon:
I think the record needs correcting a bit in response to the letter published in the May 22 Edmonds Beacon from Linda Danielson, regarding the condition of the island dividers on Edmonds Way where it splits into the continuation of 104th Avenue West and Fifth Avenue South.
Those spaces are the property of Washington Department of Transportation, and are their maintenance responsibility, which they have abrogated since the recession budget cuts back in 2008.
At one point, the City took over that chore, funded by money from then Mayor Gary Haakenson’s left over campaign funds.
I have the impression, that being an area that the Daybreakers Rotary does some trash pick-up on a quarterly basis, that either the City or the state is doing some maintenance, but it seems rather sporadic, so perhaps no one has found a steady funding source for it.
No doubt Mayor Earling could enlighten us further.
