Westie Sports Seminar coming to Edmonds

Mar 21, 2013
Teddy, a local Westie, participating in dog sports.

There will be a Westie Sports Seminar presented by the The West Highland WhiteTerrier Club of Puget Sound at Edmonds Lutheran Church on April 6 for dog owners.

Part of the clubs mission is to educate the public to be good owners. One of the great benefits of dog sports is that you can make a difference in a dogs self-confidence.

This is very important when you adopt a dog.  It is also a bonding experience for both the dog and the owner (trainer.) It’s very rewarding for both. It doesn't even matter if you have a mixed breed, there are events they can also participate in.

Since we are a terrier club it is geared toward terriers, but anyone interested can come.  Only the earthdog is strictly a terrier sport.  Any dog can participate in the other sports.

Old dogs, young dogs, adopted dogs, couch potato dogs can benefit.  You just chose a sport to their ability.

All the dogs in sports "smile" while they are working a course.  It is called "brain-food" for dogs.

Some of the sports don't even require equipment other than a box, or a ball.  You train once a week and then start competing.  All your classmates normally show up at the same competition and eventually you seem to know everyone.

This is an opportunity to come and get all your questions answered and an overview of what the sport entails and how to get started.

Two of the presenters have sports facilities in the area, and are giving discounts to new members.  The group will have give aways and the event includes lunch.   They need reservations just for preordering lunch and having the tables/chairs in place
